Severly sprained wrist?

yesterday i was at the hospital because my doctor thought i broke my wrist, it turned out to be a level three sprain, which takes about 5 weeks to heal. im wondering what kind of support i should use because the sprain is so severe or if i need a cast, and if i do need a cast, what is it like because ive never had one before...
