Will the U.S. demise slowly or swiftly?

I've heard a saying,"History doesn't repeat itself but it rhymes." With our ets/military stretched across the globe and our mounting debt, I have to compare the U.S. to nations of the past such as like 19th century Great Britain, Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire, etc. It seems as thou the U.S. is due for a correction. The 19th century belonged to Great Britain, 20th century belonged to the U.S., and it looks like the 21st century will belong to China.
